What is the FIOD?
The FIOD is the number one investigation service of financial and tax crime in the Netherlands.
Is the FIOD part of the Netherlands Tax Authority?
The FIOD is part of the Directorate General of the Netherlands Tax Authority and is responsible for investigating financial and tax crime.
Which ministry is responsible for the FIOD?
The FIOD falls under the ministerial responsibility of both the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Justice and Security. The FIOD is part of the Netherlands Tax Authority and is the investigation service of the Ministry of Finance.
What does the name FIOD mean?
Initially, the name meant Fiscale Inlichtingen en Opsporingsdienst (Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service). After the merger with the Economic Investigation Service in 2000, that literal meaning expired and FIOD is now the full name, and is no longer an abbreviation.
Where is the FIOD located?
The FIOD operates throughout the country, at various locations.
How many people work at the FIOD?
The FIOD has 1850 employees (as of July 2024).
What kind of investigations does the FIOD do?
The FIOD basically investigates forms of financial and tax crime. Examples include undeclared funds (dirty money), money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, terrorist financing, illegal gambling, drug crime, illegal cigarettes, subsidy fraud and many more.

Unfortunately, we cannot update you on what we do with the information you give us. We are bound by confidentiality and privacy laws and regulations, so it is not possible to tell you what happened with your report.
Can I work at the FIOD?
The FIOD aims to be an open and diverse organisation, with many career opportunities. However, you must meet the job requirements, and we confirm if you have integrity through conducting background checks. Do you have a criminal record, or are there other signs you might lack integrity? Then you are not eligible for a job at the FIOD. Check the website www.werkenvoornederland.nl to see if there are any vacancies for which you are eligible. You cannot send an open application.
What education do you need to work at the FIOD?
It depends on what exactly you will be doing at the FIOD as to whether specific education is required. Read the vacancy carefully to find out what the requirements are for the job you have in mind.
